On the tracks of silver mining
The "Geological and Mining History Hiking Trail Badenweiler-Sehringen" leads through the beautiful forests of the surrounding area and makes the regional mining history tangible. The quartz reef with its cleavage cavities and ore veins, which was formed at the fracture steps of the Upper Rhine Graben, extends clearly visible in the terrain from Sulzburg over Badenweiler to Schloss Bürgeln. According to experts, galena, silver and iron ore were mined here as early as the time of the Celts. From the information pavilion at the parking lot on the L123 (Sehringer Straße), one can get a comprehensive overview of the traces of mining in the region, which was still in operation until 1926, along a route of 5.6 kilometers. The trail touches no less than ten former tunnels and illustrates many interesting facts about the tradition of mining between Sehringen and Badenweiler on the basis of more than 30 information boards.
