With a length of around 325 metres and a width of 200 metres, the Nonnenmattweiher with a bathing bay and a nature-protected part is not particularly large, but for all those who love to swim in a mountain lake, a visit there is certainly an unforgettable experience.
After the lake had probably already silted up in the Middle Ages, it was later dammed up again. According to legend, a nunnery sank into the lake. However, the name of the lake is not based on the legend, but on the fact that cows for fattening, so-called nuns, grazed on the pastures around the lake.
